Hello,
My name is Mona.
And as long as I can remember, I have loved painting. There is something genuinely elevating about creating a form out of points, lines, and colors that can transfer emotions and elicit feelings from the painter, the observer, or both. This fascination goes far beyond the time of fast-paced industrial life and digital socializing. It takes us back to our first urges to self-discovery, to our deepest desire to connect and leave something behind.
Maybe that's why making art is rewarding.
I love to use paint to search for new forms, which usually evolve into emotional weight. I am not interested in creating something that already exists because it is in its perfection. I study its shapes and colors to understand and borrow. Then, I redefine it as a starting point to benefit my composition so that I would obtain something new. That may be why some of my works have a classical feel, even at their most abstract manifestation. However, they might not have the classic beauty, but they have found their language.
So many artists have influenced me in the last 25 years that I have been learning and creating art, and today, after all this time, I can hardly say what the style of my paintings is. Sometimes there is the need to narrate a story. Sometimes it's just a statement, and there is a time when it is just pure sentiment, an urge to express and then watch the forms and marks speak for themselves. But sometimes you don't know what you are trying to say or create, as if you have no care in the world. And it is interesting how the audience might not care either, and we are all experiencing the moment together.
And I think that is what makes painting immensely joyful for me, and a necessity.
